We are a group of Centerville residents concerned about unchecked high-density development projects being proposed for our city. Initially formed in response to the proposed construction of a 3+ story, tax increment financing (TIF)-supported apartment building facing the lake, we subsequently learned that the entire downtown core had been quietly rezoned to allow for multiple high-density, mixed-use projects.
The rezoning plans aim to increase population quickly and significantly, leading to a strain on local infrastructure and a loss of the distinctive charm that drew many of us to Centerville. We oppose that vision and advocate for a balanced approach to development that respects the character of our city and preserves our precious natural resources.
Without public awareness and continued pressure on our elected officials, these poorly considered developments will continue to be approved. We recognize that growth is inevitable but believe that any proposed projects must be carefully considered and aligned with the best interests of current residents, whose voices are being stubbornly ignored.
We have endorsed a slate of candidates for Mayor and City Council whom we believe will listen to residents and work to meet their needs instead of catering to the desires of outside interests. Join us in our efforts to secure a sustainable future - one that values thoughtful planning, respects our city's history, and preserves the essence of what makes Centerville truly special. Let's build our community together!
